It’s always fun for me to plan my kids birthdays (big or small!) every year. This year, since we will be celebrating major milestones for my husband and my son, we opted to have a very intimate party for my little girl’s 4th birthday. Sometimes, a small party can also be quite stressful especially if I allow myself to get carried away. This time, however, I’ve decided to make it simple, with minimal decors, a lot of help and focus on good food!
It was a very small party aka immediate family and cousins. But I made a lot of nice discoveries that may be useful for those who are planning an intimate party in the future. Here’s a rundown of our suppliers.
Food : Albergus Catering/CHEF EXPRESS PACKAGE
While inquiring for my son’s party, Albergus sent me a catering package for small events with a minimum of 30 pax. They call it CHEF EXPRESS. The setup was fast and efficient, service was great and best of all, the food was superb! It also helped that they were having a 20% off promo for the month of June! What a steal. The only caveat is that they will not be providing tables and chairs and the utensils that will be used are all disposables (they only use starchware biodegradable ones if this is a concern). This wasn’t an issue for me because I opted to use my own stash of plates and utensils. They also have very limited colors available for the table runners.

Party Decor : Party Starters for the D-I-Y Sofia the First kit; Own stash and D-I-Y of pompoms and lanterns
I was running out of time to make my own D-I-Y party decor so I opted to order from Party Starters. They have a selection of customizable designs for most birthday theme. We chose Sofia the First as requested by the little girl. Communication was fast and efficient. As soon as we finalized everything, the package arrived in a few days. I would suggest to give yourself and party starters at least two weeks so you can make custom requests. They supplied the custom banner, photo decor, welcome sign, cupcake toppers, labels and favor tags.

Cake & Cupcakes : Estrel’s Caramel Cake & Everyday Mom’s cupcakes
As much as I wanted to do a custom cake, I opted to order ready-made cakes and cupcakes for her birthday. Living in QC area has its perks, one of those is being able to order Estrel’s cakes on a whim. Make sure to order at least 2 to 3 days in advance. On days that will coincide with a special occasion (i.e. Mother’s day, father’s day, etc.), a week in advance is recommended. They can turn you down if they’ve reached the maximum number of orders for a day.
Everyday Mom’s cupcakes is another good find in Tomas, Morato, QC area. I just love how simple, flavorful and super moist her cupcakes are. The cupcakes are made with quality ingredients and without the use of butter. We got the vanilla cupcakes and you can see real vanilla bean specks on the frosting. Yum! She won’t be able to customize for you but the cupcakes are pretty basic and you can easily decorate them as needed. The kids had fun decorating their own cupcakes.

It’s always fun to celebrate special occasions with loved ones. It doesn’t always have to big but a simple touch to make it extra fun and special is always welcome. I am not the type who would stress over what I could’ve done or did. The most important thing is that everyone had a great time, enjoyed good food and had awesome conversations.
